Passing of Kayoko Ogimoto, PhD

On behalf of Drs. Michael Schwartz and Gregory Morton

Dear colleagues,

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear colleague, Kayoko Ogimoto, PhD. Kayoko had an indelible impact on our team and the broader community during her more than 20 years of service at the University of Washington.

After completing her PhD in Exercise Physiology at Oregon State University, Kayoko joined the UW in 2002 upon the establishment of the NIH-funded Nutrition Obesity Research Center Energy Balance Core. Over the course of >20 years, she served as Manager of the Core’s day-to-day operations and played a crucial role in its expansion, success and the establishment of its nationally renowned reputation. Her dedication, commitment and expertise were central to the success of numerous research programs, and her contributions have left a lasting impact on the field of nutrition and obesity research.

Kayoko retired from the UW in March 2023. Her family has shared their gratitude for the support and kindness extended to them by the UW community, which allowed them to enjoy a wonderful quality of life. They are grateful for the connections and memories shared during Kayoko’s time with us.

In honor of Kayoko’s memory, her family kindly requests that, in lieu of sending flowers, donations be made in her name to the Kadampa Meditation Center Washington (KMCWA), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Donations will help sustain the Center and its Dharma activities, supporting the International Temples Project, created for the benefit of the public. Donations can be made via the following link: Kadampa Meditation Center Washington Donation.

Kayoko’s legacy will continue to inspire us, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to work with her.
