Dear Members/Mentors of our UW NORC:
Through support from a supplement to New York NORC, the Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology & Nutrition & UW NORC are pleased to invite you to participate in a one-day Mentor Training Workshop that will provide mentorship education including culturally aware mentoring to mentors/faculty to enhance research mentoring of junior investigators, including those from diverse backgrounds. This seeks to build capacity within our unit and across our institution for mentorship education. The workshop will occur on one day only.

The details are as follows:
- The CIMER Program Training in Cultural Competence Workshop curricula, called ‘Entering Mentoring’ is for mentors of research trainees and will be conducted by ‘The Center for Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research’ CIMER: https://cimerproject.org, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
- The one-day workshop will be held at the UW Botanic Gardens – Wisteria Hall (8:30 am – 4:00 pm) and will be led by CIMER trained Facilitators. Attendance is in-person only. Maximum attendance is 32.
- Participation requires attending for the duration of the workshop.
- There is no cost to you to participate! Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
What is provided to you:
- Providing mentors and mentees with an intellectual framework for effective mentoring relationships, an opportunity to experiment with various methods, and a forum in which to solve mentor/mentee dilemmas with the help of their peers.
- Engage mentors in interactive mentorship education to improve their mentoring skills.
- Provide mentors with a toolbox of strategies they can use when faced with challenging mentoring situations.
- Will build capacity and provide sustainability at the institution for mentorship education.
- You can include having attended this Workshop in your mentoring reports to NIH (T32, K’s or other).
